Child Safety Seat Installation

Car crashes remain the number one killer of children ages 3 to 14. Always use the proper Child Safety Seat. If your child has outgrown their booster seat, make sure they use a seat belt. Children 12 and under should always ride in the back seat. Children learn from adult role models, so wear your seat belt correctly every time you are in the car.

Are You in Compliance with Missouri Law?

Missouri Child Restraint Law RSMo 307.182:

  • Children less than 4 years old or less than 40 pounds must be in an appropriate child safety seat.
  • Children ages 4 through 7 who weigh at least 40 pounds must be in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat unless they are over 80 pounds or taller than 4’9″ tall.
  • Children 8 and older or weighing at least 80 pounds or at least 4’9″ tall are required to be secured by a safety belt or buckled into an appropriate booster seat.
  • This law includes all cars, pickup trucks, and vans. Public carriers for hire are the only vehicles exempted.
  • The Child Restraint Law is a primary law. If an officer observes a child in a vehicle that is not properly restrained, the officer can stop the vehicle solely for that reason.

Community Fire Protection District has Child Passenger Safety Technicians on staff.  Techs will provide parents and caregivers with information concerning proper installation and use.  During the appointment your seat will be checked to ensure that it’s not damaged, expired, or recalled.  Don’t forget your car and car seat owner’s manuals; they are important references for the technician.

Child Safety Seat installation assistance is available when technicians are on duty. The Community Fire Protection District has 3 certified child safety seat installers on duty at various times throughout the week. Please call us for an appointment so we can ensure one of our installers will be availalble to help you.
