Free Smoke Detector Program

Smoke Detectors Save Lives. Increase your chance of surviving a fire.

  • Smoke Detectors double your chances of surviving a fire.

  • 80% of all fire deaths happen in homes with no working smoke alarm.

  • Smoke detectors can provide early warning of fires, allowing time for families to escape and firefighters to arrive before the fire grows.

Fire Prevention and public safety in the home is one of the biggest concerns of all fire service agencies around the country. The Community Fire Protection District offers assistance with purchasing and maintaining smoke detectors. This program is designed for residents of the Community Fire Protection District.

We will provide FREE battery operated smoke detectors for those who cannot afford them. We will also test and replace batteries as needed and instruct residents on their care and maintenance.

To receive an alarm or battery, or to schedule a time for firefighters to assist with testing or installing smoke detectors, residents can call our office at 314-428-1128. Residents may also stop by any Engine House during normal business hours.

 File of Life Program

Medical emergencies can happen anytime. When they do, there is confusion, panic and urgency. Paramedics arrive on the scene with no information about the person in need. Seconds count – they can make the difference between life and death. Does the patient have prior medical conditions? Allergies? What medications are they taking? Who do they want us to call? How do we contact their family or friends? File of Life puts these answers at their fingertips. It allows first responders to immediately begin the best possible treatment, notify loved ones, and pass this vital data on to awaiting physicians at the emergency room. File of Life has already saved thousands of lives. It is an absolute asset to emergency preparedness, and peace of mind, for every household.

These are free to the public and available at all three of the engine houses as well as our administrative offices. To obtain a File of Life residents can call our office at 314-428-1128 or stop by Monday - Friday 8:00am till 4:00pm.

 Safe Place

The Community Fire Protection District is a proud partner of Safe Place. All 3 CFPD Engine Houses are designated Safe Place Sites.

Safe Place is a national youth outreach and prevention program for young people under the age of 18 (up to 21 years of age in some communities) in need of immediate help and safety. As a collaborative community prevention initiative, Safe Place designates businesses and organizations as Safe Place locations, making help readily available to youth in communities across the country. Safe Place locations include: Quiktrips, libraries, YMCAs, fire stations, public buses, various businesses, and social service facilities.

Here’s how Safe Place works:

  1. Step One – A young person enters a Safe Place and asks for help.

  2. Step Two – The site employee finds a comfortable place for the youth to wait while they call the licensed Safe Place agency.

  3. Step Three – Within 30 minutes, a qualified Safe Place volunteer or agency staff member will arrive to talk with the youth and, if necessary, provide transportation to the agency.

  4. Step Four – Once at the agency, counselors meet with the youth and provide support. Agency staff makes sure the youth and their families receive the help and professional services they need.

Along with accessing Safe Place in person, youth may also TXT 4 HELP to receive information about the closest Safe Place location and chat with a professional for more help. TXT 4 HELP is a nationwide, 24-hour text-for-support service for youth in crisis.

When a young person uses TXT 4 HELP, they will text SAFE and their current location (address, city, state) to 4HELP (44357) for immediate help.

Within seconds, a message including the closest Safe Place location and contact number for the local youth shelter will be delivered. Youth will then have the option to reply with “2chat” to immediately text with a professional for more help.  TXT 4 HELP is *free, quick, easy, safe, and confidential. *Message/data rates apply. *If there is not a Safe Place in your community, TXT 4 HELP will connect you to the closest youth service organization.

Visit the TXT 4 Help page to learn more.

STARS: Special Needs Tracking & Awareness Response System

The Community Fire Protection District actively participates in and implements STARS in its district.

The Special Needs Tracking and Awareness Response System, or "STARS," is a one-of-a-kind program designed to improve emergency care for children with medical complexities. Through the creation of personalized, emergency care plans that are written specifically for EMS and emergency department staff, intensive training and the development of a centralized web-based system that integrates with 911 dispatching systems, the program’s goal is to make emergency care safer for our most fragile children.

STARS is a single program developed and maintained by multiple pediatric hospitals and used by many emergency and EMS agencies throughout Missouri and Illinois. STARS allows medical professionals to access important patient information and care instructions before they even arrive at the patient's side. This way, they can provide faster, more skillful care for better patient outcomes.

Education in CPR & Other First Aid

The Fire District can provide training in a variety of public and professional programs such as: CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), First Aid, and Sports Injuries. Classes are very user friendly.
